There is a lot of ice on the sea route between Hiiumaa and the mainland. The situation is getting worse every day. TS Laevad is monitoring the situation and discussing possible solutions.
Guldar Kivro says that the ice breaks and freezes again. This makes the sea route more difficult to navigate. The water level is also dropping. Today the water level is -57 cm, which is at the limit. The wind is not changing and the situation may worsen.
There is more water on the Virtsu-Kuivastu line. But the Rohuküla and Heltermaa channels are very shallow. It is difficult to navigate there. Eight years ago, there was a similar situation on the Heltermaa-Virtsu line. Now the Heltermaa channel is also difficult to pass.
Passengers must be patient. For example, on Monday the journey took three hours. TS Laevad is doing everything to keep the ships sailing.
If the situation becomes very bad, TS Laevad will have to take special measures. They are talking with the municipality and the government. Then only essential ships, such as food and medicine ships, would be able to sail.
Currently, the ferries Tiiu and Regula are sailing between the mainland and Hiiumaa.
