Tallinn is planning new schools because the population is growing. A study by the University of Tartu shows that the population will increase over the next 15 years. The most people will come to Põhja-Tallinn, the city center, and Haabersti.
There is currently a shortage of school places in Põhja-Tallinn. In September, Põhjatähe Primary School will open, accommodating 648 students. The school will gradually grow larger.
A new school will open in Lasnamäe in four years. It will accommodate 850 students. Currently, there is a lack of space in six schools in Lasnamäe.
A new primary school is planned for Haabersti. There are many new residents there. The city government is preparing architectural competitions for the new schools.
Forecasts show that Tallinn's population is growing. By 2040, there will be nearly half a million people in Tallinn. Some schools may close in the coming decade.
