The city of Tallinn will not build bicycle paths on Narva Road. This would have required reducing the width of the car lane. Minister of Infrastructure Kristjan Järvan says that Narva Road is very important and this would not be a good solution for the city.
Bicycle paths will also not be built on Liivalaia Street. This would require a tram track, which is not currently planned to be built. European Union funds were intended for tram tracks, not just bicycle paths.
Järvan also talks about the bicycle path on Pärnu Road. This is a difficult project because the street is narrow. Three kilometers of bicycle path will be built on Tehnika Street. This will not interfere with cars.
Madle Lippus (Social Democrats) says that EU funds could have been used. Now the money is being wasted. Design conditions are being created immediately. The bicycle path on Pärnu Road is still being discussed.
Tõnis Savi (traffic expert) says that bicycle paths are needed. Currently, drivers are used too much. People should have more mobility options. The city does not have a good plan to reduce cars.
