Ott Karulin was elected as the new director of Viljandi Culture Academy. His term begins on August 1 and lasts for five years. Anzori Barkalaja and Kertu Saks also ran alongside Karulin.
Experts said that Karulin knows a lot about the work of the culture academy. He also understands the future challenges of the academy. Anti Selart said that Karulin's plans were clear and concrete.
Karulin believes that the culture academy is currently in good condition. He wants the academy to be even better. He wishes to create flexible learning opportunities and support learners and teachers.
The previous director, Juko-Mart Kõlar, left due to a scandal. After him, the academy was led by Kadri Steinbach.
Karulin has worked as a visiting lecturer at the culture academy since 2013. He has also worked at the Ministry of Finance. Previously, he was an advisor at the Strategy Bureau of the Government Office.
Karulin has been a member of the advisory boards of various theaters. He is also a member of the board of the Estonian Cultural Endowment's Performing Arts Fund. Additionally, he has been the editor-in-chief of the magazine Sirp. He holds a PhD in theater studies from the University of Tartu.
