Harju County Court made the decision on Monday. Former minister and member of parliament Kalle Laanet received a sentence. He must serve one year and four months of probation.
The prosecutor accused Laanet. He said that Laanet sent false documents in 2022 and 2023. He wanted the state to pay his rent. He knew it was wrong.
Laanet's rental agreement was with his stepson. The parliament and ministry were not aware of this. They paid Laanet over 13,000 euros in rent. This was wrong.
The court stated that the spouse's child is a related party. Laanet was not allowed to rent the apartment from them.
The parliament revoked Laanet's immunity on May 22nd. Laanet said he did not hide anything. He said all documents were public.
The police investigated the matter before the court's decision. They did so in cooperation with anti-corruption prosecutors.
