Two memorials will begin to be relocated in Tallinn. They are located in the city center. One is a naval battle memorial. The other is a monument to a writer.
The naval battle memorial is called "Anchor and Cannon". It will be moved to Aegna island. Before that, it will be maintained. Currently, it is located next to the Bank of Estonia Museum.
This memorial consists of parts of a Swedish ship's anchor and cannon. The ship sank near Aegna in 1790. The anchor and cannon were recovered from the sea in the late 1800s. They were placed near the Russian Club. Now there is a library there.
A new building is being constructed near the Reaalkool. Therefore, the memorials are being relocated. The naval battle memorial will be replaced by a monument to the writer Ernst Peterson-Särgava. He was a teacher at the Reaalkool.
Peterson-Särgava was also called "Habe". He worked at the school for a very long time. The city believes his monument will fit well there.
The memorials will be relocated by the company Kivikunst OÜ. They will also maintain the objects.
The Ernst Peterson-Särgava monument will be installed at the beginning of the new academic year. The naval battle memorial will be moved to Aegna in the spring of 2027. For this, a new plan will be made and a suitable location will be chosen.
