On Saturday evening, snow began to fall and strong winds pushed trees onto the roads. This made driving dangerous. Several traffic accidents occurred due to slippery conditions. In one of them, three people were injured.
Rescuers had a lot of work overnight. They had to respond to 17 traffic accidents. The most serious accident occurred in Kohtla-Järve at 10:29 PM. There, a bus veered off the road. Three people were injured. One of them was taken to the hospital.
Strong winds broke many trees. Rescuers had to remove them from the roads. The most trees fell onto roads in Lääne-Viru County (7 times) and Harju County (5 times).
At the same time, rescuers had to go to Pärnu County. There, a spruce hedge was on fire. The fire was extinguished.
The weather service reported that in the morning, rain, slush, and snow fell in northern, central, and eastern Estonia. Major highways are wet or snowy. Smaller roads may be snowy and slippery. Driving there is difficult.
The weather service advised against driving in Ida- and Southeast Estonia on Sunday. Strong winds may break more trees. Therefore, caution is advised, especially on secondary roads.
According to the weather forecast, snow, slush, and rain will fall on Sunday. Winds will blow up to 24 m/s. The air temperature will range between +3 and +7 degrees Celsius.
