The government plans to allocate €44.8 million to the Security Police in 2026. This is 43% less than this year.
This year, the Security Police will receive €78.9 million. In previous years, the budget was smaller. For example, in 2024, the budget was €48.5 million.
The head of the Security Police, Harrys Puusepp, said the budget is large because the agency received funds allocated for national defense. They also had to reduce costs together with other institutions.
The work of the Security Police is to prevent and stop threats to Estonia. They focus on areas such as cybersecurity and counter-terrorism. For this, €44.88 million is planned for 2026.
The budget of the Foreign Intelligence Agency is increasing every year. In 2022, they received €28.5 million; in 2026, the budget will be €60 million.
Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said the state needs good intelligence activities. The funds will also be used to purchase new equipment.
The minister added that institutions must be able to work during crises. This became clear during the war in Ukraine.
The state will allocate €84.3 million for intelligence activities next year. This is 24% more than this year.
