Starting from 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning, rescue teams are inspecting apartments in Narva. They are working together with the city, housing associations, and gas services. They are checking apartments where gas leaks were found. The gas supply there has been temporarily shut off.
During inspections, the ventilation system and the safety of gas appliances are checked. If necessary, the gas remains shut off until the problems are fixed. The rescue department asks residents not to use gas appliances before an official notice.
On Tuesday, Ida-Viru County rescuers responded to multiple gas leaks. Due to hot weather and high air pressure, apartment building ventilation systems are not working properly. Therefore, using gas appliances may create a dangerous situation indoors.
On Tuesday, 15 gas-related calls were registered in Narva. People smelled gas in their apartments. They felt sick, and the gas detector was activated. Gas appliances were being used in all apartments. An ambulance took one person to the hospital.
Rescuers found gas leaks mostly in bathrooms. Gas valves were closed, and windows were opened for ventilation. The use of water heaters was prohibited.
