The Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture wants buses to run at fixed intervals. This means that buses would depart, for example, every 1, 2, or 4 hours.
The ministry has created a guide on how bus lines should operate. The guide helps bus companies, cities, and the government collaborate better. The goal is to make it easier for people to travel across Estonia.
Bus lines are divided into two types: regional lines and basic connections. Regional lines connect larger cities with smaller places. For example, these buses go to railway stations, ports, and airports.
Regional lines have a fixed schedule. Buses run, for example, every 1, 2, or 4 hours. This means people always know when the bus will arrive. During peak hours, there may be more buses.
Buses must reach major centers early in the morning. For example, in larger cities, the first buses must arrive around 6-7 AM. In the evening, the last buses run after 10-11 PM.
In smaller places, there are basic connections. These ensure that people can get to work, shops, and other important locations. Basic connections also help with transfers to trains and long-distance buses.
The new law is still in progress. This law will specify more precisely how bus lines should operate.
