Many Estonian doctors support euthanasia

Most Estonian doctors agree with euthanasia. 73% of doctors support it now. Before, only 40% agreed. Euthanasia means a doctor helps a patient die. Assisted suicide means a patient takes medicine to die. 71% of doctors agree with assisted suicide.
526 doctors took part in the study. Younger doctors agree more. They are under 40 years old.
But many doctors are not ready to do euthanasia. Only 37% would do it. Many say they need more training. Around one-third of doctors have heard patients ask for euthanasia.
Palliative care helps reduce pain. Doctors with palliative care training agree less with euthanasia. Two-thirds of doctors have not had palliative care training.
Before legalizing euthanasia, palliative care must improve. Doctors need more training. Then euthanasia can be discussed.
