Katry Kivinurm will start working at the Ministry of Climate on November 9.
Her position is not new. It was reshaped based on the previous role of Deputy Chancellor for Green Reform.
Marten Kokk, the Chancellor of the Ministry of Climate, has previously worked with Kivinurm.
The Ministry of Climate confirmed that she was selected by the executive selection committee operating under the Government Office.
Karoli Noor, head of the communication department at the Ministry of Climate, said that Kivinurm was hired by an external selection committee and confirmed by the minister.
Estonia is a small country. International cooperation is very important for Estonia.
Kokk said that the work of the Ministry of Climate emphasizes cooperation with the European Union and international partners.
The responsibilities of the Deputy Chancellor include representing Estonia's priorities in European Union policies and legal acts.
She is also responsible for supporting the transition to a more environmentally friendly and competitive economy.
Kivinurm currently works at Estonia's Permanent Representation to the European Union.
Her term of office is five years.
