The government allocated funds to the Environmental Board to purchase ten drones for hunters. One drone costs 6000-6500 euros. In total, nearly 65,000 euros will be spent.
These drones are specialized. They use thermal imaging, which helps locate wild boars in the dark. Hunters can use the drones to detect animals when other devices cannot.
The Environmental Board expects the drones to reach hunters by the end of August or early September. The drones will primarily be deployed in areas affected by swine fever outbreaks.
Hunters will receive assistance from skilled drone operators when using the drones. The drones are expensive, so they will not be given to beginners. The operator must have experience.
Hunters can also collaborate with hobby drone operators. They are interested in trying out the thermal drones.
In exceptional cases, hunting dogs will be allowed. Normally, the use of hunting dogs is prohibited in summer. Now, dogs can only be used in fields.
Pig farmers can temporarily use old farms. These are needed when a farm must be emptied due to the outbreak. The farm must then remain empty for three months.
There are other issues as well. Old farms require environmental permits. Obtaining a permit can take years. Additionally, the necessary equipment is lacking, so investments are needed.
