Riigikogu Speaker Lauri Hussar called for an extraordinary session. This was a proposal from 27 opposition members. At least 21 Riigikogu members' support was needed to convene the session.
Coalition parties do not plan to participate in Thursday's session. A minimum of 51 parliament members are required for the session to take place. If the coalition does not participate, the session will not occur.
Once the first reading is completed, a second session will take place. The second session will be held two hours after the end of the first one. A third session will take place one hour after the end of the second session.
The purpose of the bill is to create a basis for shortening the motor vehicle tax period. The reduction occurs in two cases: if the vehicle is deregistered or if the vehicle is temporarily deregistered.
The Chancellor of Justice already addressed the issue of aligning the car tax law in February. He noted that people should not be required to pay tax for destroyed property.
The opposition party Isamaa proposed on Wednesday to discuss the abolition of the car tax. The coalition did not support this proposal. The Social Democratic Party remained neutral during the vote.
