A four-lane road is being built on Via Baltica. Work is currently underway for about 25 kilometers. When driving between Tallinn and Pärnu, there are no major delays.
Construction has started from both the Tallinn and Pärnu sides. Roads are being excavated and new lanes are being built. In Pärnu County, work is already active on two sections.
About 20 kilometers from Pärnu, a bypass is being constructed. Its length is seven kilometers. Three viaducts, one pedestrian tunnel, and three bridges are being built. Currently, there are many construction machines on site.
Although construction is progressing quickly, travel time has not yet increased significantly. By summer, delays could grow up to 40 minutes. However, it is hoped that this will not happen.
There are temporary speed limits and stops in traffic. But many drivers note that the construction does not bother them much. For example, one driver said that their trip did not take more time than usual.
Most of the work will be completed by the end of 2027.
