The new Tallinn hospital complex will be built in Lasnamäe. This plan has faced criticism due to its location and size. Mayor Jevgeni Ossinovski said it is a great opportunity to improve healthcare in Tallinn.
Ossinovski said that Tallinn is ready for hospital reform. He hopes the state will consider continuing the reform. He wrote to Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and asked for clarity on the state's plans. The state has not yet decided whether to support the construction of the new hospital.
The mayor believes that hospital reform is necessary. He said that Tallinn's healthcare services have suffered and the new hospital complex would improve the situation. If the reform takes place, it will also be used during elections.
Ossinovski explained that building a new hospital would be better than renovating old hospitals. The new hospital complex would be large and cover almost the entire city's healthcare needs. Additionally, it would be simpler and cheaper.
Lasnamäe was chosen as the location for the hospital because it is in a good location. It is well connected to other districts and transport. The size of the hospital is justified as it would cover the entire city's needs.
Ossinovski said that the hospital project still needs improvement. He wants to collaborate with architects to improve the project. He believes the final plan will be successful.
