Els Himma's singing career began in 1962 in Tallinn. She sang at the Kevad restaurant for nearly ten years. At the same time, she performed concerts with many ensembles. For example, with the ensembles Kustas Kikerpuu, Raivo Tammik, and Emil Laansoo. She was also a soloist with the Estonian Philharmonic.
In the 1960s, Els Himma participated in jazz festivals in Estonia and abroad. She received much recognition. Jazz was her favorite music.
In the late 1960s, Els Himma became famous. She participated in the concert films "Melody 66" and "Melody 67". She was also in the film "Must habe tahab teada" and the TV show "Horoscope".
Els Himma also acted in other films. For example, in the films "Doors" and "Vana Toomas Was Stolen". She was also in the feature films "Schlager", "Closed Circle", and "Under a Foreign Name".
In the 1970s and 1980s, Els Himma was a popular artist in Tallinn's variety shows. For example, at the Viru variety show and the bar-variety show Tallinn. In the 1990s and 2000s, she performed concerts at major events and private events. She continued to give concerts until 2024.
Els Himma's repertoire was very diverse. She sang from pop to jazz, from folk songs to disco hits, and from romances to tangos. Her more famous songs are "What You Live and Breathe For", "Black Man", "It's Good", and "Midnight".
Els Himma is survived by two daughters who mourn her.
