In July, the Transport Administration reviewed vehicles with suspended registration. These vehicles have been in the same status for seven or more years. According to traffic law, these are lost vehicles. Therefore, they will be deleted from the traffic register.
In summer, there were 97,668 such vehicles. Of these, 72,488 vehicles will have to pay the motor vehicle tax starting from 2027.
Over three months, vehicle owners took action. However, 91,538 vehicles are still scheduled for deletion. Of these, 68,053 vehicles will start paying the fee from next year. The Transport Administration urges people to check their vehicles and arrange them if necessary.
If you have a vehicle with suspended registration and wish to keep it, you must temporarily delete it in the Transport Administration's e-service. During deletion, you must prove the vehicle's existence through a photo application. You can also actively put the vehicle back into use. For this, you need to perform a technical inspection and conclude a traffic insurance contract.
If you physically have the vehicle but do not wish to keep it, you must take it to a waste handler. Then the vehicle will be deleted from the register free of charge.
Starting from 2027, vehicles with suspended registration will have to pay the motor vehicle tax. Also, the state fee for deleting a vehicle without a destruction certificate will increase to 800 euros. This year, the fee is 15 euros.
