The Tallinn City Government sent the initiation of the detailed planning for the Lasnamäe State Gymnasium to the council for discussion.
Riigi Kinnisvara AS (RKAS) plans to build a state gymnasium complex on Mustakivi Road in Lasnamäe. Nearby are the Tähesaju commercial district, Tondiraba Park, and the former dormitory of the Estonian Maritime Academy.
Raivo Toom, project director at RKAS, told ERR that studies in the new school building are expected to begin in 2030.
„This assumes that the detailed planning will be established by the first quarter of 2028 at the latest. In that case, construction work can begin in the third quarter of 2028,“ he said.
The explanatory memorandum accompanying the draft sent to the council states that an architectural competition will be held. This is necessary to find a suitable urban and architectural solution for the new state gymnasium complex.
Toom said that the competition will indeed be organized and preparations for it have already begun.
The Lasnamäe State Gymnasium is planned similarly to the Mustamäe and Pelgulinna State Gymnasiums. It will accommodate up to 1,080 students.
Currently, there are three state gymnasiums in Tallinn: Mustamäe, Pelgulinna, and Tõnismäe. The Tõnismäe State Gymnasium is currently operating in temporary facilities.
According to the plans, construction of the new Tõnismäe State Gymnasium building on Endla Street will begin in at least two years. The building, rising next to the National Library, is expected to be completed and studies to begin there by 2030 at the latest.
