Next year, the state will invest 128 million euros in the construction of four-lane highways. This is more than double the amount from this year.
In the coming years, nearly 45 kilometers of four-lane road will be built from Tallinn towards Pärnu. Over 20 kilometers will be constructed towards Tartu. Work on the Mäo–Imavere section will begin soon.
The northern bypass of Tartu and the southern bypass of Keila will also be added to the road maintenance plan.
While the road maintenance plan volume is 180 million euros this year, it will be 100 million euros larger next year. Martin Lengi, director of the Transport Administration, said this is good news.
The budget for dust-free surfacing of gravel roads will increase to 12 million euros next year. Previously, it was three million euros.
Infrastructure Minister Kuldar Leis said the funds will come from the car tax. On average, this will generate 85 million euros annually.
Next year, the reconstruction of the Saatse boot will also begin. Tarmo Trei, head of the infrastructure companies' union, said, however, that the funding for road maintenance remains insufficient.
