Isamaa and the Center Party began coalition negotiations on Thursday. Isamaa listened to its voters and made a choice in favor of the Center Party. This was stated by Riina Solman, the head of Isamaa's Tallinn region.
After the elections, Social Democratic Party leader Jevgeni Ossinovski made a proposal to Isamaa, the Conservative People's Party, and the Reform Party for negotiations. According to Solman, this proposal did not seem very tempting.
Solman said: "Ossinovski probably thought it would be enough to call four parties together. I have good relations with Jevgeni and told him to respond with something more substantial. His response was better than the others."
When asked if people were angry about the alliance between Isamaa and the Center Party, Solman said her experience was different. "I received two angry letters and some neutral messages on my phone. However, there were a lot of congratulations."
Solman added that negative talk on social media is often fueled by bitterness. Isamaa chose the Center Party because many voters wanted the city to be put in order.
Solman recalled that one voter said: "I am voting for the Center Party because the city is completely disorderly. Grass is growing, and there are traffic jams everywhere."
After the elections, surveys showed that 70% of Isamaa voters preferred an alliance between Isamaa and the Center Party.
Solman said that people are happy when the city works properly. "Many voters were angry because there are many traffic jams in the city, and people cannot get food money."
When asked if Isamaa could use the agreement to retain the position of mayor, Solman said that Isamaa does not act in this way. "When we promise something, we fulfill it. There are no people among us who harm others."
