Most of the fires started from a campfire or grilling. No one was injured.
The largest fire was in Piistaoja village, Tori Parish, Pärnu County. The emergency center received the notification at 14:52. The campfire caught fire and burned approximately 300 square meters. Strong winds quickly spread the fire, which also reached the forest.
Rescuers quickly got the fire under control. At 15:47, the spread of the fire was stopped. At 16:44, the fire was extinguished. A total of 4 hectares of grass and 7000 square meters of forest burned.
Another major fire was in Tammemäe quarry, Saku Parish. The alarm came at 13:50. Rescuers used a boat to reach the island. They found that grass and forest were burning on the island.
By evening, the fire was under control, but work continued.
The Rescue Board warned that fires are not inevitable. Most of them start from human activity. In dry and windy weather, fire can spread quickly.
The fire hazard will remain on Sunday as well, especially in Central and Southern Estonia.
