In Estonia, there were an average of 38,000 registered unemployed in the third quarter. This is 5,600 people and 13% less than a year ago. The share of unemployed in the working-age population decreased from 6.3% to 5.5%. The number of unemployed has been below 40,000 for two consecutive quarters.
The Unemployment Insurance Fund had an average of 5,250 job vacancies in the third quarter. This is more than a year ago. Job offers have increased in industry, science, trade, and construction.
Brit Rammul, a member of the Unemployment Insurance Fund's board, says the labor market is improving. "There are fewer unemployed and more job offers. Finding work depends on a person's skills and field."
Competition for jobs has decreased. A year ago, there were 11 unemployed per job, now there are seven. The highest competition is in the finance and insurance sectors.
The profile of the unemployed has changed. There are now more older people and those with higher education. The share of young people and unskilled workers has decreased. There are also fewer people who do not speak Estonian.
