Trolleybuses have started running again in Tallinn after a long break. Two new lines operate between Mustamäe and Balti jaam. These lines are numbered 84 and 85.
In August, three more lines will begin operating: 81 (Mustamäe-Kaubamaja), 83 (Mustamäe-Kaubamaja), and 72 (Mustamäe-Kopli). In total, 40 new trolleybuses will be introduced to Tallinn's streets.
The new trolleybuses vary in length. 18 trolleybuses are 12 meters long, and 22 trolleybuses are 18 meters long. They can travel up to 25 km without using the electric grid. All trolleybuses are comfortable and easily accessible.
There is no longer an electric grid for trolleybuses in the city center. The new trolleybuses operate there without using it. Tallinn plans to add more trolleybus lines in the future.
The city wants to expand trolleybus traffic to Paldiski maantee and Laagna tee. This would allow trolleybuses to travel towards Haabersti and Lasnamäe. The city plans to purchase 60 new trolleybuses between 2028 and 2030.
Previously, trolleybuses also ran towards Haabersti, but these lines were closed. The trolleybuses were removed because they were old and in poor condition.
