Ruhnu is a small island. The island wants to use only clean energy by 2030. Currently, the island uses diesel. Diesel has to be transported to the island.
Sulev Alajõe says that the island can do without diesel. The island can use wind energy. The use of batteries is also important. On sunny and windy days, electricity can be stored. It can then be used later.
Currently, Ruhnu cannot do this. The island does not have enough capacity. Discussions with the government are ongoing about using clean energy. It is possible. The central government must approve it. It requires money, but it is worth it.
If the plan works, Ruhnu will no longer need to transport diesel. The island can be without diesel. It would be good for the environment and the people of the island.
