The city of Tallinn is making plans for ERR's old television house. New buildings will replace the old structure.
ERR is building a new television house. The old building will be vacated by 2028. However, the property sale will begin this autumn. The proceeds from the sale will assist in the construction of the new building.
Tiit Terik, Deputy Mayor of Tallinn, stated during a press conference that the city has initiated detailed planning. The plan was prepared by Tallinn's chief architect and Kadarik Tüür Arhitektid.
The old television house is large. In the future, people will live there, and business will be conducted. Currently, it is designated for television use. The new buildings will be 3-5 stories high. One building could be up to 8 stories.
The new buildings will house shops and apartments. Half of the buildings will be dedicated to commercial or public spaces. The other half will be residential. Around 230 new residents could move in.
The first floors will be for shops. There may also be a library. Bike lanes and sidewalks will be added to the streets. A square will be created at the intersection of Faehlmanni, Terase, and Kollase streets.
Parts of the old building will be preserved. They will be restored. 30% of the greenery will be retained. There are many trees next to Gonsiori Street. The new plan also includes parking spaces, mainly underground.
Studies will be conducted before the plan is approved. The plan will be adopted by the end of 2027 or early 2028. Construction of the buildings will begin thereafter.
ERR is selling the property. A new owner will be found in 2027. ERR will use the land until the end of 2028.
