Liisa Oviir is no longer the chairman of ERJK. Her five-year work in the committee ends in April. Parliamentary parties and other institutions had to submit new members by Friday.
Oviir said that the new committee will have both easier and harder tasks. In May, the Political Parties Act will change, giving the committee more opportunities. But the committee is now under more scrutiny, which may make the work more difficult.
From the previous committee, Airi Mikli, Kaarel Tarand, and Heiki Sibul will continue. The remaining members come from political parties. The Reform Party representative Jevgeni Krištafovitš said that party-affiliated organizations are an important topic.
The Social Democrats are nominating Eduard Odinets for the committee. He may also be elected as chairman. The Social Democrats' secretary-general Piret Hartman said that the committee should act more independently.
The new committee has two Tarands: Indrek Tarand represents Eesti 200. The party wants ERJK to have more opportunities. Isamaa expects clearer decisions from the new committee.
Two new members come from Võru. Isamaa is represented by Tarmo Piirmann and EKRE by Jüri Kaver. The Center Party representative Jaan Toots will continue in the committee. The Center Party's secretary-general Anneli Ott believes that party representatives should not decide on party financial matters.
The first meeting of the new committee is on April 30.
