Founder of Estonian applied higher education Arvi Altmäe passes away

Arvi Altmäe was an important teacher and educational figure.
He worked for over 50 years for Estonian education. From 1983 to 2010, he led Tallinn University of Applied Sciences. Since 1992, he was the rector of the school.
During Altmäe's time, the school became a place where important decisions were made. He contributed to the restoration of Estonia's independence. Members of the Estonian Republic's Main Committee and the Estonian Congress met at his school.
Altmäe was also the chairman of the Estonian Congress Election Committee.
He also worked on the development of applied higher education. With his help, Tallinn Construction and Mechanical Technical School became today's university of applied sciences.
For over 50 years, he taught young architects and builders.
Altmäe also led the Estonian Home Beautification Association.
He received the Order of the White Star, II and III class.
Arvi Altmäe's funeral will take place on July 24 at Tallinn Crematorium at 14:30.
