During Ukrainian President Zelensky's visit to Tallinn, four important topics will be discussed. These are military support, attack drones in the airspace of the Baltic states, pressuring Russia, and peace talks. This was stated by the president's foreign policy advisor Margus Kolga.
Zelensky will meet with President Alar Karis and Prime Minister Kaja Kallas. He will also participate in a Nordic-Baltic cooperation meeting. Kolga said that peace talks will also be discussed at the meeting. Additionally, ways to help Ukraine in the war will be discussed.
The second topic is attack drones in the airspace of the Baltic states. Kolga said that ways to avoid drone incidents must be found. If something happens, they must be neutralized. He added that Ukrainian drones may pass by the borders of the Baltic states.
The third topic is pressuring Russia through sanctions and isolation. Kolga said that sanctions are working, albeit slowly. Russian President Putin has been nervous recently. The land war is not progressing actively.
The fourth topic is peace talks. Kolga said that approaching peace is difficult. We need to be ready when these opportunities arise. He mentioned Zelensky's letter to Russian leader Putin and the London visit.
Kolga emphasized that Estonia and other countries must be active. We have an important role in peace talks. He said that the international community does not differentiate between who speaks.
Kolga praised the help of Estonia and other Baltic and Nordic countries to Ukraine. He said that Ukraine expects consistency. Our support is significant.
Kolga also spoke about the visit of Zelensky's wife, Olena Zelenska. She has her own program and topics. She will meet with Sirje Karis and discuss the issue of Ukrainian children deported to Russia. Russia has deported about 22,000 children from Ukraine, of which 2,200 have been returned.
Katrin Viirpalu asked Kolga about the Tallinn meetings. Kolga said that now is the time to discuss the future and find common ground. Results will not be immediately disclosed to the public.
