The Defense Resources Agency has started a new project. This project aims to introduce national defense education into 8th grade elementary schools. Currently, national defense education is mandatory in high school.
In the 8th grade, national defense education doesn't need to be a separate subject. National defense topics can be discussed in any subject. This school year, 23 schools have shown interest in the project.
The project aims to introduce students to national defense topics. For example, quizzes and excursions to military units will be organized. Students will also be taught shooting with air guns.
There are two ways to organize shooting. The first option is if the school itself wants shooting instruction. The second option is if the physical education teacher takes their group to a shooting range.
With air guns, it is possible to create a shooting range in the school's sports hall. Many schools already have such shooting ranges or can renovate them.
Young people often have mental health problems. Shooting helps reduce anxiety and other mental health issues. Young people can exercise and learn together.
Shooting with air guns is not mandatory. If the youth or parents do not wish to participate, no one is forced to shoot.
